Golf equipment manufacturers recognize the importance of placing their equipment in the hands of professional golfers. The most trusted proving ground for golf equipment is the PGA Tour, the most highly rated circuit of professional golf tournaments in the world. Most of the major golf equipment manufacturers have representatives that follow the tour to provide support to the professional golfers, but mainly to ensure that their brand is kept in view of the golfing public. The largest of the major golf equipment manufacturers are Adams Golf, Callaway Golf, Nike Golf and Taylor Made Golf.
Adams Golf is the smallest of the large golf manufacturers with a PGA Tour presence. While numerous PGA Tour pros play hybrids made by Adams, there are only five PGA Tour professionals that are actual Adams Golf staff members. The best known Adams Golf PGA Tour staff members include Aaron Baddeley, Chad Campbell and Omar Uresti. As mentioned, Adams Golf hybrid clubs are popular on tour and as of August 2010 is claimed to be the No. 1 hybrid on the tour.
Callaway Golf has a large PGA Tour staff, including marquee names such as Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els. In addition to these two marquee names, other professionals that play Callaway Golf clubs include champions on the PGA Tour such as Stuart Appleby, Cameron Beckman, Shaun Micheel and Notah Begay III. Callaway drivers and wedges are popular items on tour that are played by tour members who are not Callaway staff members.
Nike Golf has become one of the most popular brands in the game, mostly due to fact that Nike is the main sponsor of the world's No. 1 player (as of August 2010), Tiger Woods. In addition to Woods, Nike Golf also includes Paul Casey, Stewart Cink, David Duval and Lucas Glover on its roster of PGA Tour staff professionals. Nike Golf has been the main sponsor of Tiger Woods since he declared professional status in late 1996.
Taylor Made Golf
Taylor Made Golf has one of the largest collection of PGA Tour staff members in professional golf (as of August 2010). Taylor Made boasts trademark names such as Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Dustin Johnson, Kenny Perry and Y.E. Yang to its cadre of PGA Tour staff members. In addition to its PGA Tour staff, Taylor Made products, especially drivers, are played by a number of non-staff members that are on the PGA Tour.
