A common misconception with beginning golfers is that to increase swing speed, one needs to swing harder. This approach commonly results in mis-hit balls, slices or hooks. In order to obtain a faster swing speed, you have to be able to rotate your body back and through the shot at a faster speed. In order to improve your swing speed, focused exercise of your core muscles will result in greater swing speed and distance on your golf shots.You can think of your core golf muscles as the portion of your abs that goes from your belly button to your sternum.
Set a golf club on your shoulders behind your head. The club should be laying on your neck. Grab each end of the club with your hands.
Rotate your upper body as far right as you can and back to the left side, while keeping a straight posture. Visualize this motion as mimicking your backswing through the follow-through for a right-handed golfer. Reverse the direction of the exercise if you are left-handed.
Items you will need
Repeat the rotation slowly for 10 repetitions. Take a 30-second break, and repeat the exercise. Conduct a total of three sets of 10 repetitions of the exercise. If you find that three sets of 10 is too few, increase the number of repetitions.
Conduct this exercise daily to increase your range of motion and swing speed.
